Where to start?

I assume anyone reading a blog like this has already spoken with older relatives, downloaded some free genealogical software, perhaps read a book and joined a genealogical society. I have the worst organised notes of anyone I ever met, so would be ashamed to lecture you on the subject.

If I were to recommend a single resource to get you started on Sephardi genealogy it would be the Dictionary of Sephardic Surnames (Dicionário Sefaradi de Sobrenomes) by Guilherme Faiguenboim, Paulo Valadares, Anna Rosa Campagnano. They have created a surnames directory from 335 bibliographical sources. This means that for most Sephardi surnames you have a starting point of where to look, and many of the listed sources will themselves reference original source material.
